Our Guide to a Five-Day Skincation

While we are all stuck at home social distancing, there has never been a better time to take a skincation - a term we've coined to give your skin the rejuvenation it deserves.  So, ditch your makeup bag and come along with us on a skin-trip to bright glowing skin. We have put together a five-day regime for the perfect skincation, and have even planned some excursions along the way, including lots of water and a skin smoothie.  Day #1- At home facial Our at-home facial starts with makeup-free cleansed skin followed by a relaxing facial steam. If you have an at-home facial steamer you can use that, but if not, you can boil a large pot of water to settle your face over for a deep pore cleansing steam, keeping your face six or more inches away at all times to avoid burns. For a spa-like feel, you can add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil and dried flowers to your bowl of steaming water. Place a towel over your head and the bowl of steaming water three times for two minutes at a time.  Steaming is so good for the skin and has numerous benefits like opening up face pores to  soak up all the following treatments.  Steam also helps to hydrate that skin by stimulating oil production as well as increases blood flow that oxygenates and boosts collagen and elastin formation. After your at-home facial, follow with your normal skincare routine.  After a steam is the perfect time to give treatment products a try - like serums and oils - to gain maximum benefits. Day #2- At home peel or try out a retinoid On day two you get to pick between two different treatments, an at-home peel or introducing a retinoid/retinol to your skincare routine.  Peels offer a deep exfoliation to the skin, a resurfacing if you will, that can lighten browns spots, remove acne scarring, soften wrinkles and shrink pores.  Many different skincare brands offer at-home peels, our recommendation is Dermalogica’s rapid reveal peel. For this part, follow the instructions on the at-home peel that you choose. Adding a retinoid can often times be a good first-step into a deep exfoliation without the full commitment of a peel, however they can never be done together.  If you choose to introduce a retinoid, you’ll want to slowly add it to your skincare routine. Start with using it as directed by the product’s instruction two times a week to acclimate your skin to the product. Slowly work up to using the product every day. Our recommendation is Dermalogica’s Overnight Retinol Repair. Day #3- Hydrating mask  Day three is all about relaxing and giving your skin and a little bit of love. For a hydrating mask, our recommendations are FaceTory’s Woah that H2O Hydrating mask or the DIY hydrating mask in our previous blog, Click Here to read. Day #4- Light exfoliation After the peel a couple of days ago, it is time to gently buff away the dead skin cells on your face. It is important after your peel not to be too harsh, so we recommending Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant.  Next comes hydration from the inside out, commit to drinking 20 ml of water once in the morning, again in the afternoon, and lastly in the evening. Day #5- Go to bed with a couple of different serums on The last day will be spent regenerating overnight with skin-loving ingredients so you will end your skincation looking like a goddess!  Our recommendation for one of the serums is Dermalogica’s Multivitamin Power Serum. And there is no better way to be glowing like a goddess than our skin-loving smoothie that will leave our skin stunning! Glowing Skin Smoothie Put the following ingredients into a blender: 1/2 cup coconut water 2 frozen bananas 1 cup chopped pineapple 1 cup chopped mango 2 cups spinach or kale 1/2 avocado Blend until desired consistency and then drink up for the best skin of your life!
